We all know how incredibly important education is. But, the changing world around us may be making it even more significant. The changing landscape of interactive marketing, social media and digital technology challenges marketers to become proficient in these new areas of advertising in a relatively short time. But, as busy, working professionals, how do we find the time to learn about them?
Online education is becoming increasingly popular among working adults. A recent study by PEW Research Center shows that online college courses have become increasingly prevalent: 29 percent of American adults believe that a course taken online provides equal educational value to one taken in the classroom.
I recently completed a master’s degree online at Seton Hall University. Their MASCL program (Master of Arts in Strategic Communication and Leadership) was conducted online over the course of 18 months, with three weekend residencies throughout the program. I will testify any day that online education (when done right) can be just as fulfilling as classroom learning. MASCL gave me fresh perspective on my career, the public relations industry, and the world as a whole – it changed my life.
Online educational opportunities abound for busy marketing and public relations professionals. Many trade organizations and even some agencies—sometimes in conjunction with local universities—conveniently provide free webinars and training to help professionals stay up-to-date with trends and technology in a constantly evolving and rapidly changing industry. For example, click here to learn about an upcoming webinar from Godfrey about B2B mobile design.
So, as our industry continues to evolve and the internet continues to play a larger role in the way that we do business, how will you fit education into your busy routine?
